/ Why an airplane?
At Mission Geeks we focus our work in remote rural areas because we feel this is where our efforts will have the most impact.
Because of very poor roads and the immense distances involved, it will quickly become impractical to visit the majority of our rural projects with our volunteer geeks by vehicle in the coming years, especially during the rains. With this in mind we began to think about the possibility of operating an aircraft as part of our work that would:
a) Ensure we can get in and out of projects quickly with our volunteer geeks ensuring we use their professional time as efficiently as possible.
b) Allow us to efficiently monitor and evaluate each of our projects in rural areas.
c) Allow us to use the aircraft to assist rural hospitals and missions with medical and other emergencies.
In the 2 years leading up to the launch of Mission Geeks, Gareth trained for his pilot license to ensure that we had a pilot available for when it was needed. We anticipated a long wait before we’d be able to gain access to an aircraft but our board of trustees took the extremely exciting (and terrifying!) step of faith in deciding to proceed with the purchase of a Cessna 182 aircraft. We are so grateful to have had pilot/mechanic Jon Lake join the Mission Geeks in late 2023 as a missionary to support our work.
/ FUNDING REQUIRED
We need to raise $165,000 in total to pay for the aircraft and new engine. While this is a huge amount of funding, we know that the aircraft will enable us to achieve so much more than we could without it. We hope to raise $25,000 each year (over the next 6 years) towards the purchase of the aircraft.
Please get in touch below if you’d like to partner with Mission Geeks to make this happen!
