New Project – Sachibondu Mission

/ Our Biggest Project Yet!

Sachibondu Mission is a place close to our hearts here at Mission Geeks. The mission was started in the 1960s by Gareth’s grandfather Gordon Suckling and during his life there he built a Bible school, a trades training centre, a school and a clinic to serve the people in this extremely remote area near the DRC and Angola borders.

The mission is more active than ever today and the old clinic was recently kocked down to make way for a brand new hospital built by Orkid Studio. Construction in such a remote area is not easy and it took 3 years to finally complete but the hospital is now finished and the mission is raising money to equip it.

Though not registered as a first-level hospital as yet, the Ministry of Health has designated the Sachibondu health facility as an isolation unit during the Covid-19 pandemic. The pressure is on to upgrade the hospital to this level as soon as possible because once they reach this goal, the Ministry of Health will assign at least one doctor and more nurses to be based at Sachibondu. We can only imagine the far-reaching benefits this will have for the population in this area, both now during the pandemic but also into the future.

The last remaining hurdle in order to make this happen is the provision of a mortuary facility and because we dream big here at Mission Geeks we’ve decided to take a giant leap of faith and take this project on! With a budget of $42,000 it’s our biggest project so far but we’re excited to do all we can to make this happen!
